A handful of our students competed in the Modeling the Future Challenge this year. This is a national competition of math modeling put on by The Actuarial Foundation. The Actuarial Foundation challenged high school students to make the best recommendations to companies, organizations, or government agencies based on their own mathematical modeling of future trends and risk analysis.
This year 172 teams participated in the qualifying phase by answering a set of questions related to a real-world data-set. About 90 teams qualified for the project phase where they conducted a research analysis project about a topic of their choice within the annual theme. I am happy that 3 of those teams were from Whitney High! Finally, 11 teams were selected (out of the 90) from a review of their reports to attend the Modeling the Future Symposium to present their research to a panel of actuary judges. WHS had one finalist team.
The symposium happened virtually over April 23 & 24. We are SO EXCITED to share that they placed 3rd and will split $10,000 in scholarship money!
Overall 3rd place: Team SANA
Top 90: Team Mathmagicians
Top 90: Team Accurate Actuary
Congratulations on a job well done!!!!
